Native to the Malay Archipelago and parts of Australia, this fruit has been cultivated since ancient times and is popular even today. The Malay apple has a rather bland but refreshing taste and is commonly made into jam. This image was originally published in Belgium in the year 1863 by Berthe van Nooten, as one of a series of forty Southeast Asian botanical lithographs depicting fruits and flowers.
